On this page, you will find information about our class learning, which is updated weekly. We will occasionally share links to online resources that can be used to support learning at home. It is important that children are supervised when using these suggested links.
Our Class Saint
Saint Joseph
This year in Reception we have chosen St. Joseph as our Class Saint. We chose this Saint as we feel that St. Joseph is an important figure in the Holy Family and follows our previous learning around St Mary. We will celebrate St. Joseph this year throughout our time in school and we will also celebrate his feast day on the 21st March. We look forward to sharing the learning around this special saint and his Earthly, Fatherly figure to ourselves and to Jesus.
Feast Day: This will be celebrated in school on Friday 21st March.
Reminders and Expectations
- Please read every day with your child at home for around 10 minutes and an adult to sign their reading diaries. READING EVERY DAY WILL HAVE THE MOST IMPACT! Children hand in their reading diaries every morning to be checked. We will listen to your child read throughout the week.
- Children will have a homework book, given out on a Wednesday and this will be returned on a Monday.
- PE Kits: On a Tuesday, children should arrive at school in their full school uniform and will get changed into their PE kits. Please make sure children have everything they need, and all items are clearly labelled with your child's name to ensure no items get lost.

Grapheme– The way we write the phoneme (sound). For example, /k/ can be written as c k ck qu ch.

The children have had a fantastic day celebrating the feast of Saint Peter. We have welcomed our parents into class for our class saint stay and play workshop and the children have loved completing activities with their families (28.6.26).

Well done Reception! What an amazing performance from all of the children during this year's sports festival.
The children had a great time at the Wolseley Centre. They have applied their previous knowledge of the life cycle of the frog to real life experiences whilst pond dipping. Whilst looking for tadpoles, the children have also discovered other animals that live in a pond. In the afternoon, the children went bug hunting and discovered lots of insects that live in the woodland area of the Centre. We also spotted some baby gosling on our trip!
Reminder: The weather this week may continue to be warm. It is important that we practice sun safety whilst the children explore our outdoor area. Please ensure that your children wear a sun hat and sun cream, bring their own bottle of sun cream into school with their name on, and ensure they arrive at school with a full bottle of water to stay hydrated.
In Reception this week, the children will be exploring the season of Summer. The children will identify the signs of Summer and will make comparisons to the other season we have looked at this year. As the weather is beginning the get warmer, the children will also be learning about sun safety and how to look after their skin and bodies.

This week, we will continue to focus on growing things by exploring butterflies and their life cycles. Over the past few weeks, the children have been observing our class caterpillars and have been identifying the changes that have happened. We now have 5 beautiful butterflies who we have been taking care of. This week, we will be releasing our class butterflies into nature.
We will continue our learning about butterflies by learning new vocabulary such as eggs, chrysalis, pupa, and butterfly. We will look at the stages of the life cycle in detail and the children will begin to recall and recreate their own.

Our learning this week, will focus on exploring sunflowers. The children will look at the parts of the sunflower and will begin to recognise the stages of the life cycle. Maths:
This week's learning in maths focuses on exploring numbers from 10 to 20. Children will count to 20 and back to 0, identify one more and one less, and compare and represent numbers. This is their first encounter with two-digit numbers so it is important they understand that teen numbers are formed with a ten and some ones. This week, the children in Reception have visited our local church, St. Joseph's. They have looked at some of the artifacts inside the church and have had some lovely discussions with the church's parishioners. The children were able to make links from their learning in R.E. all about the church and the role of the priest.
As the children are welcomed back this week, the children's learning focus is based on farm animals and their babies. The children will build on their learning from the Nursery and will begin to understand that the names of animals' babies are different. For example, a sheep's baby is called a lamb. We will also look at the different produce that is provided by farm animals.

This week, the children will continue to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. This week, the children will begin to explore composition by focusing on the preliminary skills: the concept of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. By investigating their own bodies and familiar toys they will begin to understand that whole things are often made up of smaller parts and that a whole is, therefore, bigger than its parts.
