On this page, you will find information about our class learning, which is updated weekly. We will occasionally share links to online resources that can be used to support learning at home. It is important that children are supervised when using these suggested links.
Our Class Saint
Saint Gabriel the Archangel
This year in Reception we have chosen St. Gabriel the Archangel as our Class Saint.
St. Gabriel is a special messenger from God whose name means "God is my strength". He is one of the most highest-ranking angels, called an archangel and is a top messenger who brings big news and God's plans to the people. We will celebrate St. Gabriel this year throughout our time in school and we will also celebrate his feast day on the 29th September. We look forward to sharing the learning around this special saint and his importance to our school.
Feast Day: This will be celebrated in school on Tuesday 29th September 2026.
Reminders and Expectations
- Please read every day with your child at home for around 10 minutes and an adult to sign their reading diaries. READING EVERY DAY WILL HAVE THE MOST IMPACT! Children hand in their reading diaries every morning to be checked. We will listen to your child read throughout the week.
- Children will have a homework book, given out on a Wednesday and this will need to be returned on a Monday.
- PE Kits: On a Tuesday afternoon, children should arrive at school in their full school uniform and will get changed into their PE kits. Please make sure children have everything they need, and all items are clearly labelled with your child's name to ensure no items get lost.
Survival School:
This term, we will have Survival School (previously known as 'Forest School') on the following dates:
- Monday 19th October 2026 - Autumn woodland walk
- Tuesday 3rd November 2026 - Bonfire Night / Fireworks
- Monday 9th November 2026 - Diwali
- Monday 7th December 2026 - Christmas
Please ensure your child brings weather-appropriate clothes in a labelled bag, including wellington boots, a hat, scarf and gloves and a waterproof coat.

Phoneme– The sound of a letter. For example /k/.
Grapheme– The way we write the phoneme (sound). For example, /k/ can be written as c k ck qu ch.
Digraphs– Two graphemes that make one phoneme (sound).
Trigraphs– Three graphemes that make one phoneme (sound).

What a fantastic first few days we had and well done to all the children for coming into school with super smiles! We have enjoyed getting to know each other a little better and look forward to our first full week, this week.

Phonics
During this week's phonics sessions, we will be learning to recognise the sounds 's' and 'a'. Try finding things at home that begin with a 's' or an 'a'? Can you see the sky, stars or the sun? Do you have an apple or an alarm clock in your home? What else can you find?

Maths
This week in maths the children will be revisiting learning from Nursery and learning to count and recognise up to 3 objects. Please click on the link below to support this learning at home

The children this week will be learning to settle into their new classroom and routines.
