Our Class Saint - St Thérèse of Lisieux
During our transition days, the children choose St Thérèse of Lisieux to be our class Saint.
Feast Day: 1st October
This half-term our values and virtues are Attentive and Discerning.
Swimming
Our swimming lessons have now come to an end. The children have done so well during the year and have really grown in confidence. Well done Year 4!
Curriculum Information
RE

Sharing in the Life of Christ
In this unit the children learn about the Universal Church established on the original teaching of the Apostles. They will reflect upon the Eucharist as the Sacrament which celebrates the Church’s Unity. They will also be given opportunities to find out about religious customs from around the world.
Special Roles and Responsibilities
In this unit the children will learn about the different tasks and responsibilities given to people in the Church. This will help them to develop their understanding of the Church.
Thank you to all parents who attended our Inspire workshop. It was lovely for the children to spend time with you in class and there were some fantastic pieces of art created.
English

Adventure Stories
This half-term we will begin with an adventure story. We will look at the features of this text type and how to use these features to enhance our own writing styles. By the end of the unit, we will have written our own adventure story.
We will continue reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in our reading for pleasure slots this half term.
Maths

In maths we will focus on geometry- angles and 2D shapes, statistics and geometry- position and direction.
The children will

- Describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans.

Geography

Locational Knowledge of the World
The children will

Know where the equator, Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and the Greenwich Meridian are on a world map.

Know what is meant by the term ‘tropics’.

Use and explain climate zones. Locate/identify them.

Ask questions about global warming and discover the cause of it and research the implication.

Begin to understand the term biome and begin to make suggestions for places in the world that may be biomes.

French
Unit 4- French and the Eurovision Song Contest
The children will learn about
- Answer questions based on a video of a French-speaker, getting at least half of them correct.
- Match a set of instrument words to the appropriate instrument picture, getting the majority of them correct (allowing for any that they do not know in English).
- Say which instrument they play.
- Say what kind of music they like, using a whole sentence.
- Ask a question after listening to other pupils’ attempts.
- Read and understand music genres in written form.
- Recall country names with accurate pronunciation.
- Use a full sentence to say ‘J’habite en/au/aux ...’
- Write information in French about a character from a different country.
- Use familiar language to write several phrases or short sentences.
- Perform a song from memory with accurate pronunciation.
