We are very excited to welcome you all back to school and are looking forward to the year ahead!
Our Class Saint - St Thérèse of Lisieux
During our transition days, the children choose St Thérèse of Lisieux to be our class Saint.
Feast Day: 1st October
This half-term our values and virtues are Eloquent and Truthful.
Swimming
Every Tuesday morning year 4 will be going swimming. This will commence on the 23rd September. Please make sure that your child has their swimming costume and towel in school with them every Tuesday.

RE
Unit A - Creation and the Story of Abraham to Joseph
Children will know the stories of creation, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Joseph from the Old Testament. They will understand from the story of creation that human beings are made in God’s image and likeness and that this needs to be valued and respected in other people. They will be able to identify how God called and protected both Abraham and Isaac.
Unit B – Jesus Teaches Us How To Pray
Children will know that Jesus prayed to the Father and they will be able to identify some of the prayers that he learnt growing up in the Jewish faith. They will be able to explain why it is important to call and to pray to God the Father. They will know some of the traditional prayers of the Church including the prayer of the Rosary.
English
Key text – How to Train your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
We will begin the year with a big grammar focus whilst reading Ssh, we have a plan. We are going to be exploring the purpose of a sentence alongside defining and experimenting with regular verbs, irregular verbs, nouns and subjects.
We will then begin to further develop our creative writing skills by learning about metaphors. Then we will move on to writing a non-chronological report, character and setting descriptions inspired by our English text How to Train your Dragon.
Maths
In maths we will focus on place value to begin with.
The children will

Science
The focus this half term in electricity. The children will mke predictions to what will and work in a circuit. Understand the function of a switch. Identify common conductors and insulators. Identify metal as a good conductor. Describe differences between conductors and insulators.
History
Anglo-Saxons and Vikings
The children will

Know where the Anglo-Saxons came from and two famous Anglo-Saxons.

Use a timeline to show when the Anglo-Saxons were in England.

Know the link between Anglo-Saxons and Christianity

Know Anglo-Saxons gave use many of the words that we use today
Art
Our first unit is storytelling through drawing. We will explore how artists create sequenced drawings to share and tell stories. Then we will create comic strips to retell poetry or prose through drawing.
