Summer

The classroom is all ready for your return, and we are so excited for the Summer term together.
Our Class Saint

During our transition sessions in July, Year 3 chose Mother Teresa to be their class Saint. They chose her because she was known for her charitable work, helped the poor and vulnerable and believed that she was sent on a mission to do God’s work and to help others.
She is the patron saint of World Youth Day and the Missionaries of Charity. Her Feast Day is September 5th.
Gospel Values
Our gospel values for this half-term are ‘grateful and generous’. Children will be planning and delivering celebration of the word based on the liturgical year or our gospel values each week.
Our Curriculum

RE
Our unit in RE this half term is Easter. We will learn about the resurrection of Jesus and will explore Bible stories such as 'The Road to Emmaus' and 'Breakfast at the Shore'. The children will begin to understand the thoughts and feelings of the Apostles during this time and how they became aware of His presence.
English
During the autumn term, Year 3 will be exploring play scripts using the text 'The Twits'. The children will explore the key features of a play script and begin to develop their own using our text as astimulus.
Maths
In Maths, we will explore money by converting, adding and subtracting pounds and pence. The children will also be learning time, where they will explore Roman numerals, learn about hours, day, months and year, estimate times and tell the time to the nearest minute.
Science
Our topic for Science is helping plants to grow. The children will explore the function of parts of a plant, that plants have male and female parts to support pollination and how seeds can be dispersed in different ways.
History
In History, we will be learning about our local history by exploring the pottery industry in Stoke-On-Trent. The children will explore famous potters from the past and how the pottery industry created an industrial revolution.
Geography
In Geography this term, the children will ask and answer geographical questions about the physical and human characteristics of places in the UK and use a range of resources to identify these. They will also compare and contrast two different counties identifying their human and physical features including hills, mountains, cities and rivers.
Art
This autumn in art, we will be telling stories through drawing and making. The children will learn that we can take inspiration from other art forms such as film and literature and make work in 3 dimensions in response. They will also understand that through making work in another medium we can make the work our own, re-interpreting and re-inventing.
D & T
This autumn in DT, we will be designing and making our own scones. The children will consider the nutritional values of the items they will choose as well as learn the practical skills to measure and bake their own scones.
